EFCC Celebrates Conviction of 37 Internet Fraudsters in Oyo and Ogun States

The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the successful conviction of thirty-seven individuals involved in internet fraud. The convictions were secured in Oyo and Ogun states, with the accused facing trial before various justices.

In a statement released on Thursday, the EFCC disclosed that the convictions took place in the courts of Justices Ladiran Akintola, O.A. Olajide, J.O. Adeyemi, Bayo Taiwo, and M.O. Ishola of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan. Additionally, Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan and Justices A.A. Babawale, A.A. Akinyemi, and S.O. Adeniyi of the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta presided over the cases.

The convictions, spanning the months of November and December, were announced by Dele Oyewale, Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the EFCC. The convicted individuals were found guilty of internet-related offenses, leading to their arrest, investigation, prosecution, and eventual conviction.

As part of the court's rulings, the convicted fraudsters were mandated to restitute their victims and forfeit seized assets, including seven high-end cars, to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The list of convicts comprises individuals such as Aladelusi Temitope Matthew, Akinade Abimbola Oluwaseun, Gbenga Musbau Adebayo, and others, who were involved in various cybercrimes.

This marks a significant step in the EFCC's ongoing efforts to combat internet fraud and protect individuals and businesses from cyber threats. The agency continues to play a crucial role in ensuring the enforcement of legal measures against those engaged in fraudulent activities.
