Elon Musk's X Halts Brazil Operations Over Judge's Threat

Elon Musk's social media platform X has announced the immediate shutdown of its operations in Brazil, citing actions by a top Brazilian judge as the reason. The decision comes after a legal battle between X and Judge Alexandre de Moraes over the platform's responsibilities in countering disinformation.

According to the report, the Global Government Affairs team of X accused Moraes of threatening their legal representative in Brazil with arrest for non-compliance with his censorship orders. They described Moraes' actions as "incompatible with democratic governance" and said they had no choice but to close their local operations in Brazil to protect the safety of their staff.

Elon Musk himself reacted to the decision, calling Moraes "an utter disgrace to justice." The move follows a longstanding dispute between Musk and Moraes, who has previously ordered X to block certain accounts accused of spreading false information and hate messages.

The shutdown of X's operations in Brazil is a significant development, highlighting the ongoing tensions between social media platforms and government authorities over the regulation of online content and the preservation of democratic principles.
