Ghana Extends a Warm Welcome to Christmas Visitors with a 46-day Visa-on-Arrival

Ghana has introduced a 46-day visa-on-arrival program for visitors, effective from December 1, 2023, to January 15, 2024. This initiative is part of the Ghanaian government's ambitious 10-year 'Beyond The Return' campaign, aimed at encouraging exploration and reconnection with Ghana, particularly targeting Africans in the diaspora. The broader objective is to establish Ghana as a premier destination for individuals of African descent.
The Ministry of Transport highlighted the need to update systems to accommodate this new arrangement. Officials responsible for passenger check-ins were urged not to insist on entry visas before boarding flights to Ghana. Foreign Affairs Minister Ayorkor Botchwey has hinted at the serious consideration of allowing visa-free entry for all Africans and individuals of African descent in the diaspora.
Presently, Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin are the only African nations offering visa-free entry to all African citizens. Ghana's move aligns with its broader strategy to foster stronger connections with the diaspora, presenting itself as a welcoming and accessible hub. This initiative not only aims to boost tourism but also facilitates cultural exchange and celebrates the shared heritage of people of African descent worldwide.
