Premier League Matchweek 37 Preview and Prediction

Premier League Matchweek 37 Preview and Prediction

The Premier League season in 2023-24 is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory.

We have a title race that is going all the way, with defending champions Manchester City the team to beat and Arsenal pushing them until the end.

There is set to be an equally intense battle to avoid relegation, with playing in the Premier League now more valuable financially than ever before.

Our expert enjoyed a strong round with its picks in the last matchweek, as favourites Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest all emerged triumphant.

Matchday 37 will see eight fixtures take place on a mammoth Saturday, with Man City having the chance to go top when they travel to Fulham in a match that starts the weekend’s action.

There is also title race interest on Sunday, with Arsenal travelling to play Man Utd in the only match that day. Aston Villa’s key clash at home to Liverpool will round off the MD 37 action on Monday.

Ahead of what looks set to be another entertaining group of Premier League fixtures, let’s check out our expert's preview and possible outcomes.

Fulham vs Manchester City Prediction and Preview

Manchester City have spent the last few weeks responding to Arsenal in the Premier League title race, but on Matchday 37, they have a chance to put the Gunners under pressure when they go to Craven Cottage for Saturday’s early kick-off. City’s ominous form has their rivals praying for a favour, but history suggests Fulham may not be the team to provide one.

Man City have won their last 15 matches against Fulham across all competitions, the joint-longest winning run any team has ever recorded against another in English football history, with City also enjoying 15-game streaks against Bournemouth and Watford.

Fulham have won just one of their 15 home Premier League games against City (five draws, nine defeats), with Chris Coleman masterminding a 2-1 triumph over Stuart Pearce’s team in November 2005.

City pulled clear in the second half, though, with Haaland’s hat-trick handing them a 5-1 win.

City have scored on all 15 of their previous Premier League trips to Fulham. It is the joint-most any team has faced another on the road without ever failing to score in the competition’s history, with Man Utd also netting on all 15 of their visits to Middlesbrough.

City are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League games (16 wins, four draws). They have won each of their last six while netting four or more goals in five of them – against Aston Villa (4-1), Palace (4-2), Luton Town (5-1), Brighton (4-0) and Wolves (5-1).

Since losing 1-0 at Villa in early December, which remains their most recent defeat in any competition excluding penalty shootouts, City have won eight of their nine away Premier League games, only slipping up in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Fulham, meanwhile, are winless in three league games at Craven Cottage (one draw, two defeats), their longest run without a victory at home this campaign.

Silva’s side have, however, earned 29 of their 44 Premier League points at home this season. Only the league’s current top seven have bettered their tally of nine wins on their turf in 2023-24.

PREDICTION: MAN CITY TO WIN @1.25

Manchester United vs Arsenal Prediction and Preview

With the Premier League title race still in Manchester City’s hands ahead of Matchday 37, Arsenal know even perfection may not be enough to end their 20-year wait to be crowned champions of England. Mikel Arteta’s side have kept City honest by winning their last four games. Still, Sunday’s clash with old rivals Manchester United could represent something of a banana skin, even with Erik ten Hag’s side in dismal form.

Rashford opened the scoring in September’s reverse fixture, but Ødegaard, Rice and Gabriel Jesus struck to secure a 3-1 Arsenal win at the Emirates Stadium.

They are now looking to complete a league double over United for the first time since 2006-07, while they could also win three straight matches against the Red Devils for the first time since achieving the feat between November 1997 and September 1998.

United, though, have lost just one of their last 16 home Premier League games against Arsenal, winning 10 and drawing five, that lone defeat coming by a 1-0 scoreline behind closed doors in November 2020.

Antony scored on his debut while Rashford netted twice in this exact fixture last season, with United ending Arsenal’s perfect start to 2022-23 with a 3-1 win in September 2022.

Arsenal have at least scored on each of their last nine Premier League visits to Old Trafford, having failed to net on 12 of their first 22.

Across all competitions, Manchester United have only won one of their last nine matches within 90 minutes, drawing six and losing two, including going to extra time against both Liverpool and Coventry City in the FA Cup.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have gone unbeaten through their last eight away Premier League games, winning seven and drawing one. They had kept six clean sheets on their travels before their 3-2 North London derby win at Tottenham.

Overall, they have managed 10 away clean sheets in the Premier League this term, last keeping more in a single top-slight campaign in 1990-91 (13).

Arsenal have lost their final away league game in three of their previous four seasons under Arteta, the exception being a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace in 2020-21. The Gunners are, however, unbeaten when facing United in their final Premier League away game (one win, two draws), securing the title with a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in 2002.

Arteta’s side have done well to refocus following their UEFA Champions League exit to Bayern Munich on 17 April, which followed a disappointing home loss to Aston Villa just three days earlier. Four successive wins versus Wolves, Chelsea, Tottenham and Bournemouth have kept their Premier League title hopes alive.

United, meanwhile, have already lost at home to London sides Palace and Fulham in 2023-24. Only twice before have they lost at home to three capital clubs in a single Premier League campaign, with both instances featuring defeats to Arsenal (2001-02 and 2020-21).

PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 GOALS @1.35

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Prediction and Preview

Aston Villa could secure UEFA Champions League football for the first time if they win this match on Monday night at Villa Park. Their qualification may have even been decided before this clash with Liverpool, should Spurs lose at home to Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool have already secured UCL football in 2024-25 after a season in the Europa League, but Jürgen Klopp will hope to end the season on a high following a disappointing loss of form that’s seen them fall out of the Premier League title reckoning.

Unai Emery’s side missed out on a UEFA Europa Conference League final berth on Thursday night, as they lost in Greece to Olympiakos and failed to turn around their first-leg deficit. Despite that loss, it’s been a brilliant season for the Spanish manager and his team.

Coming into this weekend, only Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane (73) has seen more goals than Villa Park (70) in the Premier League, and with two of the top five scoring teams in the competition this season playing in this match, expect goals.

Aston Villa have won just one of their last 12 Premier League games against Liverpool, losing 10 of those (one draw). That win, however, was a sensational 7-2 victory in October 2020 behind closed doors at Villa Park.

Other than that unexpected rout, Liverpool have fared well at Villa Park in recent years, winning eight of their last nine trips there in the Premier League. Overall, Liverpool’s 16 wins at Villa Park are more than they have collected at any other Premier League away ground.

No fixture in Premier League history has been won by the away side more often than Aston Villa versus Liverpool, with 22 of the 57 meetings between them being away wins.

Liverpool defeated Aston Villa in their Premier League meeting earlier this season at Anfield, running out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah either side of a Matty Cash own goal. Salah’s goal in that meeting is one of six that he’s scored in his last seven league appearances versus Villa. As it stands, the Egyptian forward is 10th in the Premier League all-time top scorers list with 157 goals.

Liverpool’s last trip to Villa Park ended in a 3-1 win on Boxing Day 2022. Salah opened the scoring that day before further goals from Virgil van Dijk and Stefan Bajcetic secured all three points. Ollie Watkins scored a consolation on the hour mark.

Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge petered out in April, despite the month starting well with their 3-1 win over Sheffield United at Anfield. Following that victory, they drew at Manchester United before losing at home to Crystal Palace 1-0. They also exited the UEFA Europa League in April, losing 3-1 on aggregate to Serie A side Atalanta.

Following back-to-back losses home and away at Olympiakos in the Europa Conference League semi-finals, either side of a 1-0 away defeat at Brighton, Aston Villa have lost three consecutive matches in all competitions for the first time since February 2023.

***Everton FC vs Sheffield United: Everton win @1.44
***Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley FC: Tottenham Hotspur win @1.36
***Nottingham Forest - Chelsea FC: Chelsea win or draw @1.30
