Premier League Match Day 13 Review And Score Predictions

Premier League Match Day 13 Review And Score Predictions

The Premier League season in 2023-24 is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory.

Manchester City are defending champions and the team to beat, though it looks highly competitive behind them, with around half the division starting the campaign with realistic hopes of European qualification.

There is set to be an equally intense battle to avoid relegation at the bottom of the league table, with playing in the Premier League now more valuable financially than ever before.

MD 12 ended up being far from straightforward, with Manchester City’s thrilling 4-4 draw at Chelsea, Brighton dropping points against Sheffield United and Newcastle’s shock defeat at Bournemouth being three outcomes that were really unexpected

However, wins for Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester United were somewhat expected, providing hope for a MD 13 card which contains some blockbuster matches.

There are none bigger than the huge Man City versus Liverpool clash that will kick off the action in the Saturday lunchtime slot, with only one point separating the teams going into the weekend.

Newcastle vs Chelsea and Tottenham vs Aston Villa are two other matches which will see teams targeting European places do battle, while Sheff Utd will host Bournemouth in a match of equal importance towards the bottom of the league table.

Liverpool have been the only team to consistently challenge Manchester City in recent years, winning 10 out of 23 matches in all competitions under the reign of Jurgen Klopp. The two sides had epic battles in the 2018/19 and 2021/22 seasons, when City pipped their rivals by just a single point on both occasions

Just one point separates Manchester City and Liverpool before their crunch clash at the Etihad Stadium gets MD 13 up and running in the Saturday early fixture. Man City are looking to win consecutive league games against the Reds for the first time since 1937, having won 4-1 against Jürgen Klopp’s men in April. Their home form suggests they have every chance – with Pep Guardiola’s side winning their last 23 matches at the Etihad Stadium in all competitions. Liverpool haven’t fared especially well at Man City either, with only one win in their last 14 league trips

Generally, the Reds are in strong form – with their only defeat in their last 23 EPL games being the dramatic late loss at Tottenham. However, it is worth noting they have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last seven top-flight matches on the road.

Erling Haaland, who with 49 goals in 47 Premier League games is on the brink of smashing the record as the fastest player to 50 Premier League goals The Norway star is yet to score against Liverpool in the competition. In a week where there are not many one-sided matches, the 51.5% win probability for Man City is in fact the highest rate given to any team this week.

Score prediction: 3 - 2

Newcastle vs Chelsea

Both teams find themselves outside the top six before their clash at St. James’ Park, their matches this season have not been short of excitement. Newcastle had lost seven of eight league meetings with Chelsea until last season, where they collected four points from the two games. They are on a good home run, winning their last four league matches without conceding, but that strong defensive record will face a huge test against the Blues, who have netted exactly four goals in three of their last five top-flight games, a remarkable turnaround after failing to score four times in any of their 53 games beforehand.

Score prediction: 1 - 3

Brentford vs Arsenal

There may be a chance for Arsenal to go top of the standings this weekend (it depends on the outcome of Man City vs Liverpool), but they will not have it easy in an away London derby against Brentford in the Saturday early evening fixture.

While Brentford lost away to Liverpool last time out, they are usually strong at home, losing just one of their last 10 top-flight matches in front of their own supporters. will at least take comfort in having won their last two away games against Brentford in all competitions, beating them 3-0 in this fixture last season and collecting an EFL Cup win in 2023-24.

Score prediction: 1 - 2

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou made the best start to a season by a new manager in Premier League history after 10 games but the team has dropped off top spot due to consecutive defeats. Spurs were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea after being reduced to nine men and then lost 2-1 at Wolves in a game in which they were leading going into stoppage time.

One headache Postecoglou must deal with is the absence of playmaker James Maddison, who has made such an impact since arriving in June but has been ruled out until the New Year with an ankle injury. Postecoglou will be wary of Aston Villa, who have continued their rapid progress under Unai Emery and are just a point behind fourth-placed Spurs and three points off the top.

The Birmingham club's 3-1 win against Fulham earlier this month was a 13th successive home win -- a feat they last achieved 40 years ago. But their away form is less impressive, with just two wins from six games on the road.

Score prediction: 2 - 2

Everton vs Manchester United

Sean Dyche's Everton had turned the corner in recent weeks, winning three of their past five games to pull well clear of the relegation zone.

But last week's 10-point deduction for breaching Premier League profitability and sustainability rules means they go into their match against Manchester United level on four points with bottom club Burnley. Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell said the team would now have added motivation, fuelled by a burning sense of injustice at the "wholly disproportionate ruling".

Despite the sanction, the nine-time English champions are just two points from safety, thanks to the poor form of the newly promoted teams. United have climbed to sixth in the table after winning four of their past five league games but they are blunt in attack and remain unconvincing at the back.

Score prediction: 1 - 2
